  3. It's a lovely photo, but that's not a Boat-Billed. The bill is too small by about half, and it's a bit too greenish. From the absence of rusty tones, we can rule out the rare Rusty-margined and Great kiskadee. The head is wrong for gray-capped. That leaves us with social and white-ringed, which are best distinguished y bill size and nape... You don't have other photos, by chance? Posted 9 years ago
    1. Only saw this photo when I identified a boat-billed on my own photos and also saw the large difference in the bill, making this one incorrect. Which of the two you suggest do you think is more likely? Posted 8 years ago
      1. Hmmm that's tricky. The social flycatchers I've seen had less of a greenish cast to the back, and a somewhat smaller bill (I think, the angle in this photo obviously isn't ideal for assessing that particular feature), so I might lean towards White-ringed. On the other hand, I've only seen South American Socials, and I've never seen White-Ringed, so I,m far from certain. Annette, if you give me permission, I could put your photo up on BirdForum, and surely the experts there will have an answer? Posted 8 years ago
        1. Thanks a lot for looking into it. Based on this page I found your suggestion for white-ringed very good. Posted 8 years ago
