Striga angustifolia parasitizes sorghum, rice and sugarcane in India, Myanmar and Sri Lanka and has been noted to cause severe damage to each of these crops in a number of Indian states. No quantitative data are available on crop losses but effects include stunting, withering of the leaves, and severe drought stress, with crop death in extreme cases.
