      Trypetoptera punctulata side view, Netherlands Although being an avid macro enthusiast, I regularly pass on most flies. But not this one. Its interesting checkered wings caught my attention. I found a website having 20 pages full of species in this family:<br />

Just my luck, it was the species on the very last page, the last photo even. This one belongs to the family of flies referred to as Snail Killers, due to their larvae feeding on snails. Geotagged,Heeswijk-Dinther,Netherlands,Spring,Trypetoptera punctulata


      ...but it looks to be a different genus. Interesting creature indeed.
