Great Egret in Bundula, Sri Lanka
Some lessons learned on distinguishing between the little, intermediate and great Egret: this one is not a small Egret, as those have yellow feet. This leaves the intermediate and great one, which can be separated by size. However, size is hard to measure from a photo. The other way to separate the intermediate and great one is by the arc in the neck. The great Egret has a larger arc, with a stronger curve, as seen on this photo.

The great egret also known as common egret, large egret or great white heron, is a large, widely distributed egret. Distributed across most of the tropical and warmer temperate regions of the world, in southern Europe it is rather localized. In North America it is more widely distributed, and it is ubiquitous across the Sun Belt of the United States and in the Neotropics.
