Grass sac spider (Clubonia sp.)
Grass sac spiders are nocturnal wandering hunters found mainly on foliage, loose bark and leaf litter and are fairly aggressive. They have poor vision and use their front legs to detect and grab prey. They do not build a web but make saclike retreats, often in rolled grass. Retreats are used for hiding in, during moulting and to deposit the egg sacs in. There are some 288 species known in South Africa, this is one of them!
