Excuse me! My wife and I nipped to sri lanka for a long weekend (don't hate us, it is only a 1h30 flight). We arrvied at a small homestay and descided to go chill on the beach. It was an empty beach, not private, but not a tourist one. It was just us and some fishing boats... well that is what we thought... We were sat, looking out to the sea when out of the corner of my eye, a little thing was crawling next to us... it was a baby turtle, coming out of the sand and wandering to the sea! I did not have my camera or gear, just my waterproof point and shoot i use for beaches... the image quality is dreadful, but it was an amazing situation and sensation! Never to be repeated, but always remembered! :) Eretmochelys imbricata,Geotagged,Hawksbill sea turtle,Lepidochelys olivacea,Olive ridley sea turtle,Spring,Sri Lanka Click/tap to enlarge Promoted

  1. This is an example of the best camera in the world is the one you have in your hand! :) Posted 10 years ago
    1. This is indeed a perfect example of that being true. And the shot is fine, you've shared a great moment! Posted 10 years ago
  2. This doesn't look like sea turtle sir (see its limbs.. Sea turtle mostly has flaps like tips) This looks freshwater species and definitely not a Olive ridley sea turtle. Posted 8 years ago
    1. Hi Abhitap,

It is not my area of expertise, and it could be another species of turtle, but i am sure it is not fresh water ( or if it is; it is very confused). It dug itself out of the sand behind us (from the tracks), and wandered into the sea. Any idea what it could be?

      Thanks,

      John

      1. There are 5 species of sea turtle in Sri Lanka; Green Turtle, the Leatherback, the Hawksbill, the Loggerhead and the Olive Ridley. For me, it is a toss up between Hawksbill and Olive Ridley. Thoughts? Posted 8 years ago
        1. Do you have any other shot ? as I am still not convinced of it being a sea turtle species. (of course i might be wrong) but when I zoomed in your image and forelimbs and hindlimbs both are showing characteristics of fresh water species.

I will ask my friends too :-)
