Unknown spider - dorsal view This little spider has so far remained unidentified, at first it was thought to be a juvenile tropical tent web spider but the experts now disagree and thus far it is a mystery. Dr Ansie Dipenaar (the South African arachnid expert) requested the dorsal view so I had to pull the poor little thing from its web to get this shot. it does a great job of playing dead but it was unharmed and back on its web last night.
This is the other view. Such a strange wee spider. It appears many of the spiders in my garden cannot be identified. Such a special little garden I have!!
1. I'm thoroughly enjoying your mysterious garden series, Claire! Perhaps one day you discover a truly undocumented species, new to science. Posted 10 years ago
    1. Ooh now wouldn't that be nice!.... Clarissa bumpinidae (Hamilton2015) lol!! Posted 10 years ago
      1. Haha, I'm not sure if I should ask about bumpinidae, I have no idea what it refers to.

Don't exclude this ever happening though. In some areas of the world, insect life is quite poorly described.

Apparently this are has never been properly investigated for spiders...so who knows!!
