Cicada Unfortunately at this time I am unable to get this into a genus let alone a species. There are some 8 genera and 40 species in South Africa. The most likely is genus Quintilia, the Karoo cicada, but I need to do some more research. <br /> Approximately 3cm long in body, feint green markings on the top. Had a very deep call, sounding more like a cricket than a cicada.<br /> I have heard this many times but this was my first sighting, it flew onto a plant directly in front of me, waited for me to grab a camera and take a couple of shots before going on its way.
