  1. Although it looks somewhat similar, I don't think this is the correct species. The spots are not the same - it has fewer red patches and the antennae are yellow, not black.

    Although I found a discouraging comment... Meloidae: Hycleus, impossible d'aller plus loin sur photo, il existe 400 espèces en Afrique, qui sont toutes très variables.

    We could either take a chance with the only photo of Hycleus senegalensis that there is or settle with Hycleus sp.

    1. same than for the other one WildFlower, more than 400 african species, and the system jumped on the "Hycleus" word and didn't want me to be more precise...as you said the "Hycleus senegalensis" looks really close the one above... Posted 10 years ago
      1. I found a couple of other collections of Meloidae, but they only add to the confusion. The ones that look more like yours are not specified and the ones identified as Hycleus senegalensis, although variable, have 2 spots on top of the elytra.
