Common Earthball at peak maturity Currently, I'm seeing hundreds of these in local forests, but many are damaged or already burst. This one was quite a nice specimen, at maximum size, health and color so it seems. I had always though that the greyish and yellow earth balls are different species, but apparently they are not. In dutch, they are called "Yellow Potato Balls". Common Earthball,Europe,Heeswijk,Macro,Netherlands,Scleroderma citrinum, autumn Click/tap to enlarge Promoted

Scleroderma citrinum, commonly known as the common earthball, pigskin poison puffball, or common earth ball, is the most common species of earthball in the UK and occurs widely in woods, heathland and in short grass from Autumn to Winter.
