Fungi circle, Heeswijk-Dintherse Bossen, Netherlands
This is a panorama of a circle of fungi taken from the middle of that circle. This was the first time for me to try my new tripod (review: http://www.ferdychristant.com/blog/archive/DOMM-9P5F23 ). I used a wide angle 14-24mm lens for this scene given that the circle was very small.
External help indicates this species to be the Spotted Toughshank. It is identified based on its pale cap with rusty spots on top. In dutch the species name carries the word "rust".

''Rhodocollybia maculata'', common name Spotted Toughshank, is a species of fungus in the Marasmiaceae family of mushrooms.
Similar species: Agaricales

To fully experience it, try opening it fullscreen, click "load original", wait for it to load and then zoom in using the scroll wheel of your mouse. You'll see that it allows you to zoom in very deeply, which would not be possible with a simple crop. This is a 240MP photo :) Posted 10 years ago
The technique is pretty simple. In this case I took 5 photos, each slightly overlapping. Then from Lightroom I select all 5 and chose "Merge to Panorama in Photoshop". Then you get some additional choices, and Photoshop does all the rest. In this case I took he photos from a tripod, but it will even work handheld:
The above photo consists of 15 photos taken handheld. Each photos is 36MP. Photoshop still manages to automatically align it perfectly. There's other software for this as well, should you not have Photoshop.
The only problem with panoramas like these is that most users do not get to experience all that detail. It takes a very large and wide screen to truly appreciate it.
