Female S. lunata
First time seen in the garden, another one of those 'popped into the shot' moments!
There are 150,000 types of fly and it is believed there are 1,000,000 species living today.
Quite please therefore that I got an ID on this one, albeit with a little expert help!

''Stomorhina lunata'' is a species of fly in the family Calliphoridae, often misidentified because of the unusual band pattern in the abdomen, typical of hoverflies. ''S. lunata'' is an important egg predator of some major African agricultural pests, the South African Brown locust, the more widespread Desert locust, and the migratory locust.
