  3. Best I seem to be able to do is family - Eupterotidae, which means it's the caterpillar of a moth. The common name for the caterpillar appears to be wooly bear - but it's obviously quite different from what we think of as a wooly bear here in the USA and wooly bear seems to be used for quite a few hairy caterpillars. The moths are commonly known as "Monkey Moths". I'm still searching… might be getting closer.

    The round about way led me to Macrobrochis gigas, Arctiidae family instead of Eupterotidae, which I'd say looks like a good match, if the other people who've identified it are correct in their assessment. I am not so sure about the location though… the information on it is sketchy, but it might not occur in that part of India?
