  1. Unfortunately we are unable to create a species for 'fynbos' as it is a group of plants and not a single species. If you are able to identify this particular plant in the photo, then a species could be created if necessary.
I will see if I can help..only 9000 species to sort through!!!!!

    1. I really knew that it would be impossible, but i figured that since you work in that general area you would have all the species identifications memorized in your head...ha ha Posted 11 years ago
      1. Ha ha very funny!!! I wish! Actually I don't think I have even seen this type where I live, which is 6 hours away from the Cape. Very pretty, looks like daisies..actually, come think of it, it looks very much like chamomile...you sure this is fynbos? i need to get a book! Posted 11 years ago
        1. You may well be correct....since I took the shot where everything was fynbos, I just assumed it was.
I just took a look at chamomile and it does appear to be that. Could you please confirm.

          1. OK, you got me at it! Did a bit of research and yes, it is a type of fynbos. Pretty sure I have the correct id but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong! Posted 11 years ago
          2. Hi Claire,
Now I am "deurmekaar". Yes I think your identification is probably correct, but I have looked at the pictures of chamomile and the rainflower and and they are very similar, so to me it could be either (but then what do I know). Anyway, I don't think that it is a type of fynbos. Yes it does grow where fynbos grows but its distribution goes much further than any fynbos. I think (and correct me if I am wrong) fynbos only grows in that general coastal part of the western Cape, whereas the rainflower grows as far north as the Freestate and the Karoo, which would then rule it out from being type of fynbos.

  2. Yes, you are correct, fynbos only grows as you say in the coastal part of the WC but my knowledge of it is very limited. Being surrounded by the stuff...perhaps that should change ha!
I don't think is chamomile now, I don't think it grows in the same way and I cannot find any references to it growing wild in this region.

    1. Yep..it does grow in the Boland and the plant itself does not seem to be as "bushy" Posted 11 years ago
    2. I don't think it is either of the 3 suggested species. I don't have a better suggestion though, daisy like flowers are hard to identify. I found a list of Plants Identified on Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, but I couldn't find anything there either.

      1. Hi Wildflower,
Thanks for trying. We can just enjoy the pretty flowers as they are. It is frustrating, but so be it.
        Thanks again for your efforts
