Wooly Sunflower Even this late in the year (mid July) it's still wildflower season in the higher elevations here. The wildflower meadows in the Eastern Olympics were still giving a good showing at above around 4,500 feet. These flowers were on the Upper Big Quilcene trail, which is on the east side of the Olympics - it's in the rain shadow, so unlike most of the area it is relatively dry, rather than temperate rain forest.
