Wooly Sunflower
Even this late in the year (mid July) it's still wildflower season in the higher elevations here. The wildflower meadows in the Eastern Olympics were still giving a good showing at above around 4,500 feet. These flowers were on the Upper Big Quilcene trail, which is on the east side of the Olympics - it's in the rain shadow, so unlike most of the area it is relatively dry, rather than temperate rain forest.

The Common Woolly Sunflower , also known as Oregon Sunshine, is a widespread, herbaceous dicot of the sunflower family .
Lewis and Clark saw ''Eriophyllum''s growing above their camp on the Clearwater near present day Kamiah, Idaho. They gathered two specimens on June 6, 1806.
