  1. That is incredible! If I wouldn't know your history here, I'd say it's a photo composition. Very intriguing photo. Posted 8 years ago
    1. Haha, absolutely not and I have many more photos to prove it. So, the story behind the shot..
A troop of wild baboons live around here and often graze amongst the 3 horses that have been semi abandoned here (long sad story but we take care of them). Normally the baboons are quite nervous around the horses but I guess that all changed when one decided to take a nap. There were rumours that the baboons had been seen sitting on the horses but there was never proof. Now there is. I don't know how long it is going to take to get the cheesy grin off my face!!

      1. No need to prove anything Claire, I was merely mentioning the very unlikely scene, which makes this being real all the more spectacular.

Now please give us a photo of a baboon riding a horse :)

        1. I know Ferdy! That's the problem with the written word, sometimes the humour does not shine through. Re the riding of the horse, these baboons are so cheeky, its not that improbable! Posted 8 years ago
  2. Interesting photo!! Good capture. That baboon is just chilling out with his buddy it seems. "Reading" the horse's mind, I'd say he is saying either "okay Fred, time to jump off", or simply "what is going on here", or as we might be thinking, "this would be an odd couple photo for sure!"; great photo! 4. Haha, great shot. Love the way how the both are relaxing.

The chacma baboon is from the Old World monkey family. It is one of the largest of all monkeys. Located primarily in southern Africa, the chacma baboon has a wide variety of social behaviors, including a dominance hierarchy, collective foraging, adoption of young by females, and friendship pairings.
