Some fungi I noticed whilst breaking in some new hiking boots the other day. Still working on ID, please help if you like!

  1. Oh my, fungi have got to be the hardest! I got lucky over here in finding a couple of Facebook sites for real mushroom nerds and that helps but whether US fungi are the same as SA fungi ...?????? Best I can come up with at the moment is some kind of oyster mushroom but take a look here..

    1. I've recently learned that many/most fungi species can actually not be reliably identified by sight only. A single species can take hundreds of forms, which is why apparently enthusiasts take parts of them home, and sample them with a kit.

      That said, some species can be identified to a reasonable point based on location and appearance. In my eyes, a reasonably sure identification beats no identification at all.
