Pincer Wasps (Family Dryinidae) Pincer Wasps - Family Dryinidae
Quote from @hineroptera on iNat--"This quickly keys to Dryinidae in Hymenoptera of the World by the separated C+R veins and 8 flagellomeres (p.75, couplet 21). Also see example wing venation on bugguide.
That really put the face into place for me - it's such an odd triangular shape with the mandibles projected forward. Dryinidae are amazing little creatures that have raptorial forearms and catch & release leafhoppers to parasitize. The bulging sac the larvae makes is impressive. Anyway I always feel like they look like little mantises, including the triangular face.
This is a male (no cool forearms to show off). Females are often wingless, sitting and waiting in place as ambush hunters."
