Forest buzzard On my way to work I saw this beauty perched on the phone wires, I did a quick turnaround, grabbed a camera and luckily it was still there. Allowed me to take a few shots before it flew off again. We get a lot of raptors around here but rarely do I see them this close! :) Buteo oreophilus,Geotagged,Mountain Buzzard,South Africa, birds, raptors Click/tap to enlarge PromotedSpecies introCountry intro

    1. Thanks Ferdy! It certainly was a very good day considering the weather conditions! (Dull, raining...yuk!) Posted 11 years ago
      1. Hi Claire, I think this is actually the Forest Buzzard as you state - Buteo trizonatus, it and the Mountain Buzzard , Buteo oreophilus were split from the common buzzard relatively recently. See

The Mountain Buzzard is a bird of prey that lives in montane forests in East Africa and forests and plantations in South Africa. The latter population is sometimes considered a separate species, the Forest Buzzard.
