Chamois with missing horn (Rupicapra rupicapra) + video During a hike in the Valle Gesso area of Piemont, Italy, we first spotted a single chamois not too far away. Up until then I had not seen that many chamois in the wild before, so I was pretty excited already. After walking some more along the quite lonely path and ascending a steep slope, we spotted a whole heard of chamois on the opposite ridge.

They were pretty far away, but I whipped out my tele-zoom and extender and managed to get some footage of the young ones joyfully running and jumping, measuring their strength against each other. It was one of those thrilling wildlife experiences that you cannot plan for.
The fun did not stop there, since later we saw some marmots…
During this rather spectacular hike we had already spotted a herd of chamois and some marmots. On our way down, following a disused former gravel path (that had been partially washed away during a heavy storm + deluge in 2023), we saw a young ibex along with its mother.
