Pholiota_2024-05-08 SW Michigan USA In the wild, two days after this observation:<br />

I&#039;m pretty sure of the genus (Pholiota) but hesitant to take a stab at the species ID<br />

Pholiota_2024-05-06 SW Michigan USA We found a large fruiting of these on the face of a sawed tree trunk. The larger ones were 4 to 5 cm wide, the ones photographed here were 0.5 to 1.5 cm wide.<br />

  1. That looks better and I would say that it is (Pholiota aurivella),
    It appearantly is found also in Australia along the east coast.

''Pholiota aurivella'' is a species of fungus in the family Strophariaceae that is found in native forest of New Zealand and in the United States. It is frequently found in the American West and Southwest, especially in late Summer and Fall. It is sticky or slimy when moist and grows in clusters on live or dead trees.
