
Ribbed Cocoon-maker moth Cocoon - Bucculatrix sp.
This is so cool, even though the photo is awful. The larva of this species constructs a white "fence" around itself before transforming into a cocoon (pupa). The fence might protect the vulnerable larva during the process, but I don't think the reason for making the fence is clear.
Unfortunately, I didn't see this pupa while taking the photo...I was photographing a nearby moth laying eggs and only spotted this pupa during processing.
