  1. I don't know how I missed uploading this lovely and rare orchid shot in 2020. Its status is vulnerable. There is still controversy in scientific circles about the scientific name of this species. In the Catalogue of Life it is listed as a synonym of Himantoglossum calcaratum subsp. rumelicum. But I prefer to stick with this name based on some published studies over the past 12 years. I have attached a link to one such article.

Himantoglossum jankae is a relatively tall orchid (40-90 cm) that forms two oval underground tubers. Its leaves are grey-green and elliptic. The 20-40 flowers are gathered in loose clusters. The sepals are violet-white with longitudinal lines and together form a hood. The plant is pollinated by insects and reproduces by seeds.
