  1. Uhm, wow again! Can you give a rough estimate of their size? Posted one year ago
    1. I can probably figure it out exactly, as I know my lens was at its closest focal point - all I need do is photograph a ruler and I can calculate the magnification- but I’m at work, so it’ll be a little bit until I can get to it :) Posted one year ago
      1. Sure, no rush. Reason I'm asking is that there's a Blue Giant springtail in Europe at about 9mm - 15mm. I wonder how it compares to that. In my shallow search I also see hobbyists keeping blue ones.

Or, it could be a more common species that for some reason turned blue, I don't know. But somehow this one feels quite special.

        1. The big one on the right is 4 mm - not nearly as big as yours! - but I think about 2x bigger than our typical springtails.

I've found a local web site that indicates that they may be Pseudochorotes - but I don't think there's likely to be enough detail to tell which species.. They do seem to be a little larger than usual. Most of the ones I see are sized like the littlest one on the far left and are more what I would call purple, but it seems that a cyan blue is possible.

          1. I'm happy that the link includes a reference to...

...Frans Janssens is a rare authority on the subject. I contacted him once when I had a new springtail report in the Netherlands and he was very helpful. Worth a try to contact him if you're up for it. He might also be interested in using your photo.
