      Super cool - I'm not finding a thing that looks like it though... I don't really think it's a marasimoid, I think they tend to wiry stems... but I'm at a loss for other options. I can't find any waxy caps that look like this.. Trying Mushroom observer to see if I can get any suggestions. Posted one year ago

        It also looks Entoloma-ish, but I couldn't find any species that matched. Good idea to post on MO, I hope you get an ID. I'm so interested to know what this is! Posted one year ago

          I couldn't find any Entoloma with really white gills though (at least in my local guide)... I'd think waxy-cap, but I can find none with a black stem or coloring that really matches... Posted one year ago, modified one year ago

    These mushroom identities are really difficult to come up with. Many look so close and similar it is almost impossible for me to distinguish from a photograph alone. Posted one year ago

      In many cases it really is totally impossible to make a species ID from appearance alone.. This one is pretty odd looking though. I've found nothing similar much less too many look-alikes... Posted one year ago
