Stink Ants (Tapinoma sessile)
This was disturbing as the hopper (teneral, I think) was still alive, but couldn't fight off the ants. I considered flicking the ants off the hopper, but the little buggers had already ripped off a wing and chomped into its abdomen.
I found groups of these ants attacking/feasting on other insects.
Habitat: Garden

"Tapinoma sessile" is a species of small ant. Their colonies are polydomous and polygynous. Like many social insects, "T. sessile" employs complex foraging strategies, allocates food depending on environmental conditions, and engages in competition with other insects.
