Fuzzy black winged insect

I'm a little stumped.. sawfly? scolid wasp?

  1. Ugh, indeed quite some possibilities. Sawfly, club-horned wasp, aphid wasp, flower wasp.

I think important characteristics are the relatively small eyes (often found in sawflies but not exclusively so) and the lack of a thin waist.

    1. Bugguide was extremely quick to genus on this one - I just got a notification back sawfly genus Dolerus. I'll have to do some digging, but I came across one called unicolor, because the males are all black.. seems to fit, especially if none of the other are also all black..
edit - it looks like males of many species may be all black...
