  1. Cool! Approximately how large?

    There's Tremella mesenterica:

    Also, Naematelia aurantia (larger than T. mesenterica):

    Both of the above are parasitic on other fungi. But, if the fungus in your picture is big, then it could be some polypore, like Laetiporus sulphureus...But, I've never seen one that looks like this.

      This one confuses me because that species seems to look much different normally. Misidentified?

      Your last link is also the direction I was thinking in, but indeed struggling to match it to something looking like this.

      1. That example is so different from the others. I agree that it could be misIDed. Or, maybe it's dried out. I don't know.

        5-7 cm would be too small for L. sulphureus, though. The fruiting bodies grow up to 90 cm.

        This fungus is a head-scratcher.
