1. So cool and also so scary. ;P Posted 2 years ago
  2. Hope no one was injured shooting this image. Posted 9 months ago
    1. Nope, but it was an "interesting" night:

Electrophorus electricus, Caquetá,Colombia This night tour's theme was "reckless actions", such as being at touch distance with a Brazilian Wandering Spider, paper wasp nest, and as highlight the discovery of this electric eel. I had to stand right next to it in the shallow water to photograph it as I only had my macro kit with me.
It's debatable how dangerous this really is. It depends on their size (this one is 1m). A maximum voltage shock can definitely stun a human enough to make them go into cardiac arrest and drown, although this rarely happens.
3. Do these wasp have painful sting? I tried to search for this info but could not find any. Posted 7 months ago
    1. Yes, they do! Our guide got stung by one during our last trip. And he was lucky because normally they attack as a group. Posted 7 months ago

The Central American paper wasp is a nocturnal eusocial wasp. It is famous for its swarm based emigration behavior, and is native to the lowlands of Central and northern South America. This species has developed special night vision adaptations to facilitate their night-time swarming and forging behavior.
