Leopard habitat in the Serengeti
This one is best viewed fullscreen on a wide screen. I have identified the species as Leopard. You will not find it, but I can guarantee you that it is there, because only seconds ago it came down a tree and walked into this grass. We stared at this scene for a long time. Occasionally we would spot the Leopard again, and each time it was far away from its last location. We did not see or hear it move in between locations. Its true stealth.
Without this information you would likely judge this scene as empty, dull or peaceful, which just goes to show how on guard herbivores have to be in the Serengeti. Every step can be your last one.

The leopard is one of the five "big cats" in the genus "Panthera". It is a member of the Felidae family with a wide range in regions of sub-Saharan Africa, West Asia, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia to Siberia. Fossil records found in Italy suggest that in the Pleistocene it ranged as far as Europe.
