Spectacled Berry Fly (Anomoia purmunda) I guess the sun must have been hitting the wings of this very attractive little fly at just the correct angle, because I saw something shimmering on the surface of one of my Ivy bushes from some distance away. <br />
<br />
I may never have noticed this fly without that piece of luck.<br />
<br />
I&#039;m glad I did, it was quite entertaining to watch in the brief time I could before it flew away.<br />

  1. Nice spotting and video! Perhaps it will return to your hawthorns. Tephritid flies engage in lekking behavior complete with male-male fighting. That would make a great video, lol. Posted 3 years ago

Anomoia purmunda (previously Phagocarpus purmundus) is a Fruit fly (Tephritidae) in the sub-family Trypetinae, known from a large area over central and northern Europe.
