  1. This is just a guess, but when I saw this photo, I thought Megachile latimanus because of the super fuzzy front legs. That might be an eastern species, though. There's also Megachile perihirta. But, both are just guesses as I suck at bee ID. Posted 3 years ago
    1. Every time I put a Megachile bee up at BugGuide, it seems to come back as perhita, so that’s not a bad guess. Last time I asked the person who made the ID how they knew, but I have yet to hear back. There must be something distinctive- they don’t seem to need a ton of angles to tell, but it remains a mystery to me.. Posted 3 years ago, modified 3 years ago
      1. Interesting! All I know is that they usually have large mandibles and some(or all?) males have super hairy, whitish front legs. I would love to know how they distinguish them, though. Maybe wing cells? Posted 3 years ago
