
Unknown bee wolf Philanthus sp.
I found one other marked very similarly and found not too far away - maybe 20-30 miles, to this one on BugGuide marked no Taxon - crabroniformis or multimaculatus. To my eye, if anything, it much more closely resembles a variation of the markings of crabroniformis.

The difference between sexes in beewolf species seems pretty dramatic. It's very easy to get misled by searching for particular features or by making conclusion based on a cover photo of a species. Posted 3 years ago
