Here we're looking at the "leafwing" side of the wings, which mimics a leaf. The truly spectacular feature of this butterfly is the inside of the wings:

I was hoping to photograph the inside of the wings on the specimen but totally screwed it up. The wings were stuck together and crumbled like a dry leaf.

      Another in the same genus:

      Superb leafwing, Tatama National Park, Colombia Sorry, I normally avoid placing myself in the frame, yet this is the only somewhat usable shot we got of this rapidly flying species. Pink is an unusual color in butterflies (based on our experience) and the intensity of this one was mesmerizing. I wish we had a better shot of it.
