Superb leafwing, Tatama National Park, Colombia Sorry, I normally avoid placing myself in the frame, yet this is the only somewhat usable shot we got of this rapidly flying species. Pink is an unusual color in butterflies (based on our experience) and the intensity of this one was mesmerizing. I wish we had a better shot of it. Fountainea nessus, the Superb Leafwing, is a leafwing butterfly in in the Fountainea genus, which contains 8 species widely distributed throughout the tropical region. Fountainea nessus is one of the most beautiful members of the genus.
