Flamingo lake in Ngorongoro crater
When you think of it, geologically this is kind of a strange idea: a large lake inside a crater. The lake, however, is a key reason, and perhaps the only reason, that an ecosystem of carnivores and herbivores exist on the crater floor. And as you can see, the volcanic soil attracts many flamingo, who feed on the special algae that only grow in such volcanic waters.
Note that as a photographer, you cant get much closer to the lake than this. You have to stay on the sand roads, a good thing me thinks.
