This courageous Zebra is leading a herd of Zebras and Wildebeests, yet it freezes when it smells the scent of a lion.

    Lion and lioness mating in Tarangire, Tanzania This male lion (standing) and lioness (laying down) are into an intense mating mode that can last several days and take dozens of "sessions". Here's a bizarre fact I learned there: it is common for direct brothers of the male lion to "help out". Seriously, that's what our guide told us, and we actually saw it happening. The plains zebra, also known as the common zebra, is the most common and geographically widespread species of zebra. Its range is fragmented, but spans much of southern and eastern Africa south of the Sahara. Six subspecies have been recognised including the extinct quagga which was thought to be a separate species.
