Crane flies: v-shaped notch on thorax, super long legs, orange/brownish body, fringeless wings, hairless body, no mouthparts, they have palps and short antennae. Also, females have sharp-tipped abdomens, while males have claspers. Posted 3 years ago, modified 3 years ago
Mosquitoes: long proboscis with palps and antennae; fringed wings; scales on body, wings, and legs; long legs, but they aren't as long as a crane fly's legs.
Midges: Often hold front legs, which are long, in air; no mouthparts; short antennae; wings without fringe or scales; often rest with body touching/nearly touching substrate; sometimes look humpbacked.
Fungus Gnats: No mouthparts; short, hairless antennae; large coxae on legs; hind legs with spines; no fringe on wings. Posted 3 years ago
