Glow! Typical of most caterpilars of Limacodidae, they have lots of 'spines' instead of hairs.
This one looks not too bad but it was mostly green in colour, thus camouflage very well on the green leaf.
Was surprised that it does 'glows' a bit under UV light and using low light, was able to 'block' out the green leaf it was on to bring out more details of this beauty :D Caterpillar,Limacodidae,Malaysia,Penang,Stinging Slug Caterpillar,Thosea,Thosea sp.,Ultra Violet Light Click/tap to enlarge Promoted

1. Please tell me what kind of thing you mostly think it is. So I can identify it. :) Posted 3 years ago
1. Thanks, I know what it is ie. genus level, but not the exact species. Posted 3 years ago

1. Thanks, Christine :)
I managed to get hold of a cheap UV torch recently which allows decent UV photography without getting the 'purple effects' and have been trying it on most subjects to see if there's any UV effects, and did get some surprises :D

1. I am tempted to try this out next summer! Posted 3 years ago
1. For your reference, I am using this UV torch, available online at Amazon :

https://www.amazon.com/Alonefire-Flashlight-Blacklight-Rechargeable-Protective/dp/B083K1V1DH

at my local onliine website, I get it for just around US$12, cheap investment for different takes.

1. Some of the surprises are on Caterpillars, particularly Limacodidae or at least Moth Caterpillars. Do try it on them if you come across any :D Posted 3 years ago
1. Thanks for the tip! Posted 3 years ago
1. I think you are using dSLR for your photography? Can be a challenge when attempting UV photography as may need tripod. Handheld can be a challenge as taking pics without flash.

A few hiking friends who joined me on my photo hikes were able to get decent pictures under UV with just their mobile phones, so in case the condition does not permits taking UV shots with your dSLR camera, you can still capture it withg your mobile phone! :D

1. Good advice, thanks! I rarely use my phone for anything other than phone calls/texts and often forget that other functions exist, lol. But, I should use it more! Posted 3 years ago
