  1. Nice additions! What is your "lifer" count now :) Posted 3 years ago
    1. Well, my ebird life list is at 3523, but there is no way to filter out birds that I've only heard (which I do report on ebird, but don't include on my list). So maybe take a couple hundred off of that. Posted 3 years ago
      1. Wow, that's like 1/3 of all birds known. Good thing you're still young to cover the rest ;) Posted 3 years ago
        1. I think 5000 is a good life goal :) Posted 3 years ago
          1. Numbers are weird. From 3523, 5000 "feels" within reach but adding a thousand additional species is such a monumental amount of work! Posted 3 years ago
  2. Fantastic photo! It inspired me to go birding earlier this morning. ;) Posted 3 years ago
    1. Nice! What was the highlight? Posted 3 years ago
      1. Hmmm, the nuthatches, I think. I love watching them scurry up and down trees.

Fringilla coelebs canariensis is a subspecies of chaffinch found on Gran Canaria. It is a part of group of subspecies found on the Canary Islands that look significantly different from birds on mainland Europe, which has led some authors to suggest that they should be split off into a separate species. However, as birds from Madeira and North Africa are intermediate in appearance between these two extremes, more work is still required to fully elucidate their taxonomy.
