      Maybe 20-30 meters. They let me get pretty close, but were cautious. I probably could have gotten closer, but didn't want to stress them out. They were the most chill turkeys I've ever seen. Most run away before I can get a decent shot. I found some scratchings and dust bowls from them too...will post photos of those at some point. Posted 3 years ago

      Thanks...It's amazing he was so calm because they were getting swarmed by mosquitoes. I wonder if the mosquitoes can't penetrate the thick skin on the turkeys' heads? Hmm... Posted 3 years ago

          True...I think that is probably the case here. In this photo, there is a mosquito on top of the female's head. She seems unconcerned.

The wild turkey is an upland game bird native to North America, one of two extant species of turkey and the heaviest member of the order Galliformes. It is the ancestor to the domestic turkey , which was originally derived from a southern Mexican subspecies of wild turkey .
