African Paradise Flycatcher (male) in Arusha, Tanzania
We just came back yesterday from a safari trip throughout Tanzania. I'm now sorting through a few thousand photo to prepare for the yearly photo book. Here on JungleDragon I will be sharing photos in bits and pieces.
Here is the 1st one, a start of a series of several hundreds. This flycatcher was captured during sunrise on our first morning in Tanzania in our lodge surroundings, right before our first real safari trip It's technically not great, but I'm still happy with it. In Madagascar it took us a lot of patience to photograph the Malagasy flycatcher, likewise this related species wasn't easy either. In hindsight this is in fact the only photo of a flycatcher we managed to take during the entire trip.

The African paradise flycatcher is a medium-sized passerine bird with a very long tail. It is a common resident breeder in Africa south of the Sahara Desert. The male is boldly coloured in chestnut and black and the female is rather more drab. This bird feeds mainly on insects and builds a tiny cup nest in a tree where two or three eggs are laid.
