Treehopper Nymphs (Publilia concava) Being Tended by Ants
I found several clusters of treehopper nymphs and ants on Joe-pye weed (Eutrochium purpureum) leaves this morning. This cluster caught my attention though because the ants were going crazy over the pale nymph, which I assumed had just molted. There were about a dozen ants fighting over that one treehopper, whilst ignoring the others.
