This arthropod can be mistaken for an ear wig, yet the lack of large pinchers (cerci) at the end of the abdomen give away that this is a beetle instead. In dutch, the family name &quot;Staphylinidae&quot; translates to &quot;Short Shield Beetles&quot;. This is in reference to the wing casing being extremely short, requiring their wings to be folded up below it.<br />

Apologies for the poor photo, it's a deep crop of a very fast moving subject.
