  1. I normally don't upload photos I don't have IDed to species level, but this is one lovely and iNat has failed me, so if anyone here has an idea, I'd love to hear it! Posted 4 years ago
    1. I'm glad you uploaded it! This is a notoriously difficult group, which is strange given their explicit beauty. I tried hard but failed. Had a look at a few hundred species, none close to a match.

One interesting clue in your species is the horizontal band pattern somewhat obscured by the wings. Many species don't have such horizontally uninterrupted bands. This does select for a smaller group, but can't find a match. Just the subfamily Arctiinae has 6,000 neotropical species :)

      1. Thanks for looking! So much to be discovered still with moths... Posted 4 years ago
        1. Yep! Note that if you can't find anything even remotely matching here or on bigger observation sites, this is a last resort for moths:

If you know the genus, it will give you far more results, of typically pinned specimens.

      1. Maybe it's an undescribed species :) Posted 4 years ago
        1. I wouldn't be surprised it if was! I spent over an hour looking on numerous websites for an ID. Posted 4 years ago
