Asian blue forest scorpion - Pedipals (pincers)
Specimen of 15cm, with tail included. Originally from Java.
Its hard to imagine prey having any chance of detecting this species. It lies in darkness, motionless, whilst being very dark in appearance. It can't be spotted visually or by movement (vibrations), as they don't move. When prey is scarce, scorpions are able to slow down their metabolism and survive an entire year on a single insect. Yet still can strike instantly from this low energy state.
This series shows it with normal light, mixed light (UV + weak LED) and only UV.
