Tarantula Hawk Wasp - pepsis mildei ? I had posted a deceased of this species in the past, but unfortunately/fortunately saw this one on my neighbor's fence. I thought this was a good photo of its mandibles, which seem incredibly sharp and painful! Thank goodness for a telephoto lens. I guess the only good thing about this species is that it is a pollenator. Geotagged,Summer,United States Click/tap to enlarge

  3. Cool spotting!

Personally, can't confirm if it's the species you suggest. Within the pepsis genus and within your state, there's a few more species looking near-identical. I don't know how to tell them apart. If you really want to be sure, bugguide can be a good source of help if we can't figure it out here.
