The cap was ~10 cm wide, had a central depression, and was covered in scales. The spines/teeth were short (maybe 0.5 mm?) and were tan/brownish. The stipe was ~ 2 cm long.<br />

Habitat: Growing on the ground in a mixed forest.<br />

    1. Thanks! It has a typical mix of deciduous and coniferous trees for this area: lots of oak, beech, birch, eastern hemlock, and some white pine. Also, some cedar, although much of it appears to be diseased. There are also some swamps and ponds. Posted 4 years ago

''Sarcodon imbricatus'', commonly known as the shingled hedgehog or scaly hedgehog, is a species of tooth fungus in the order Thelephorales. The mushroom has a large, brownish cap with large brown scales and may reach 30 cm in diameter.
