Non-biting Male Midge - Chironomus sp. This is a good lesson in why it' s important to look before you smack. I smacked and killed this fella, without really looking at him. I assumed, based on a superficial glance, that it was a mosquito. I checked at him afterwards and was dismayed to see that it was not a mosquito, but a harmless, non-biting midge.
Habitat: Pondside; mixed forest
*Possibly Chironomus plumosus, but I am not sure. Chironomidae,Chironomus,Geotagged,Summer,United States, male midge,midge,non-biting midge Click/tap to enlarge
