I think I had the same facial expression as this salamander...dismayed by how cold the weather still was despite it being nearly mid-May.

    1. I walk slowly and my head is always on a swivel ;). But, I think I stopped for a tick check at this spot and was lucky to notice this little guy peaking out from under the bark. Posted 4 years ago

The red-backed salamander is a species of small, hardy woodland salamander in the family Plethodontidae. The species inhabits wooded slopes in eastern North America, west to Missouri, south to North Carolina, and north from southern Quebec and the Maritime provinces in Canada to Minnesota.
